(Left to right: Leigh-Ann Pinnock, Jesy Nelson, Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirwall)
So, this came out last (UPDATE: Two Fridays ago..) NEW MUSIC FRIDAY!! They’re essentially the best part of the week! And it was indeed a “Glory Day” because our favorite (riiigghtt??) group of pop queens from across the pond are here to give us their fourth collective of ear-blessing gems! YAASSS!! *Blasts confetti cannons*
From sassy to sexy (we get a healthy dose of both!) our Grown up, only notable X factor Winners (1D and 5H came in third place respectively and I think Emblem Three had fourth place) continue to serve should-be big hits! They need to work on their USA promo, but joining Ariana Grande’s Dangerous Woman tour should at least help a bit! (YOU BET I WANT TO GO!! Between this and being part of Demi Lovato’s Neon Lights tour in 2014 they picked the RIGHT pop QUEENS to open for!!)
Album Art: 9/10 SUNSET COLORS FTW! Plus since the deluxe edition comes with a concert film (THAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF MY WEEKEND + The Amas! Perrie’s vocals ARE LIFE! ) I like how it’s like a little drive-through movie.
Shout Out To My Ex: THIS IS A SHOUT OUT TO MY EX!!! So much energy on just the first line haha! Fun, empowering bop (though I don’t have any exes!) though it feels awkward if you’re a directioner/Zquad member if you put it in that context. Also SECRET LIFE HACK: Hear at least the verses with earbuds. YOU’RE WELCOME!
Touch: Well, I did tweet this…
It’s a catchy, hot song with an excellent groove and I think that Tina gif says the rest of what I want to say. (OMG PUT THE SONG ON AND WATCH IT GO!)
F.U.: Miley Cyrus has an EPIC tell-off song with the same title on her Bangerz album (Pause reading this and get your butt on Spotify if you don’t know it!) , so instantly I wonder if/how it’ll compare and I’ll say it did pretty darn well. It’s less in-your-face and more 80s doo-wop. (Now I’m picturing them in skirts in a diner and a girl arguing with some asshole. Music video concept? Call me.) Complete with the background harmonies on the verses. A B C D E F.U. is so clever! (I medium key hope this isn’t about Zayn either! Erase those thoughts from my head!) Anyway, they should do more songs in this style!
Oops (feat. Charlie Puth): A summary: Oops we accidentally fell in love and it’s damn cute! The whistles the lyrics and everything plus it’s catchy AF and easy to sing with! Charlie Puth’s singing voice lowkey annoys me, but dang boy can write HITS! I wouldn’t mind him writing for other artists more!
You Gotta Not: The second that lovely piano riff kicks in I start BOPPING!! So sassy! Freaking roast his childish ass! And I didn’t need to look this song up to know that it was co-written by Meghan Trainor! It sounds so much like what she’d sing. Some call her verses “cheesy”, I call them clever. Hardly anyone on the internet can dislike calling someone out without being a hypocrite. Most great music is based off personal experiences and in this case the dude has issues that need to be called out! Change the song if it’s not your thing and let the rest of us jam! I didn’t expect that little rant. I love the line “Boom, Boom, Boom, baby fall in love”
Down and Dirty: Getting instantanious digital distortion (that moment when you’re trying to critique music and an Iggy Azalea reference accidentally comes out) here. Meh. The leadup to the beat is promising (maybe because Perrie’s vocals are strong enough to lift 1000 pound weights without struggle) but then you get shit that’s too odd for me to enjoy much and bad vocal effects. One excellent point here though. The line “I’m bringin’ the fire so call me Daenerys” is probably in my top 10 favorite pop lyrics OF ALL TIME and it makes my little nerd heart so happy! YES to that!!!! And at Perrie trying to save us with a high note towards the end. After multiple listens, the beat is only moderately more tolerable and is well enough to go home from the hospital! It is not sick! I get why they need it, because their concerts are quite dancy, but I’m not impressed.
Power: VROOM VROOM BITCH!! LIVING FOR the intro! What’s better then good sounds? HAVING YOUR (non-existent, my hair is all natural) WEAVE INSTANTANIOUSLY SNAAAATTCCCCCCHHHHHEEEDDDDD by VOCALS!!! I love the others, I’m just firmly in the PERRIE. FREAKING. EDWARDS. IS. A. GODDAMN. VOCAL. QUEEN. lane after seeing their concert movie thing and FINALLY teaching myself who sings what parts (Fake stan ALERT! I took WAY TOO long to try figuring that out!) Thing is, on my first listen I began LIVING for it, and the next verse made me question it. Then we get more epic Perrie SLAYAGE, a solid buildup, same monster man voice from Get Weird (the song), a beat that freaking works, and RAPPING!! Yeah, we’re okay now Little Mix, I’m jamming quite hard again!!! I have to say I was thrown off by another thing though. The random freaking Moterbike part! Couldn’t stand that on my first or so listen. Then, I thought, “Hey her whoop at the end reminds me of (hilarious Youtuber) Lilly Singh’s outtro. Haha, kind of love it!” and I suddenly got used to the part. I mean there is freaking motercyle sounds in the song after all! YOU MAKE RAIN, BUT GUESS WHAT BOY? I can freaking MAKE. IT. SHOWER. THAT’S RIGHT! Whoop!
Your Love: Is that beat/sound at least semi-Indian? I get tribal vibes! I don’t know about you but I love an aggressively hit OH! in my music if you know what I am sayin’! You will if you hear this and/or Demi’s Really Don’t Care, what else can I say? I write what the music makes me think about, that’s what I can say. Welcome to my mind. This is getting kind of weird, I think this song’s a good chill jam!
Nobody Like You: Upon first listen I was surprised this was the first song on the album that was the kind of lovely ballad that you’d expect from Little Mix, and have heard them do on their previous records. Can’t fix what isn’t broken. Of course it came this late on the record. It’s called Glory Days after all. Except they probably could have had at least one more song like it. Beautiful stripped-down Little Mix vocals appreciation as always. Not just Perrie this time, ALL OF THEM!
No More Sad Songs:Â Newly single empowerment bop, pretty darn solid. I like the way she says the word please for some reasons. I think it can be best to blast happy music if you’re sad anyway cause sometimes sad music will make things worse. Depends on the situation.
Private Show: How attention snatching are trumpet/horn intros? VERY! Also something tells me that..
(Maybe I’ve been wanting to use that gif since I saw Nemi’s Carpool Karaoke, just maybe)
Britney Spears has a song with this title that I think I’ve only heard once but this song’s loud, proud, and show themed and it reminds me a bit of Circus. (*commercial voice* Comparing pop queens to other pop queens. It’s what I do.) Only this is 100% BETTER!!!!! A JAM!
Nothing Else Matters: The chorus is probably the catchiest, most likely to spin around on a loop in your brain, thing on the entire album. It got stuck in my head immediately when I first heard it on the song previews. The beat is solid. Nothing else matters like love, I agree. â€
Beep Beep: Haha didn’t expect them to literally make a song about wanting to get it on, but have to wait in traffic. Then, again maybe they got this vibe off of Fifth Harmony’s Work From Home. It’s got similar innuendos haha. It’s excellent they worked the censorship in with the car theme BEEP! Loving Jesy’s lines at the end!!
Too bad he wasn’t in the car with her is all I’m sayin!
Freak: That sound sounds like the child of a bird call and an alarm and I kind of love it. SO SASSY LIKE YES TELL HIM!!!! Monster voice is back. I’m starting to get used to him tbh, he makes things interesting. Do I think other popstars should incorporate him in their music? Maybe. I love the concept of this song,if he cheats he deserves it! You might think the freak is some kind of hot side, but it’s more like hotheaded anger! I’m kind of LIVING FOR that raspy bridge even though I don’t currently know which girl does it! Still learning over here!
Touch (Acoustic): I really like this one gentle and slowed down. It showcases their vocals more and is probably even sexier this way. Vocal Slayage warning at the end! You’ll be blessed! â€
Album Rating: 9.4/1o It’s a bit more upbeat then their previous three albums, but I don’t see a problem with making things a bit more LIT!!! Their music also got more mature and that’s excellent, fans also grow up after all! It’s got some amazing, BLAST-WORTHY JAMS, epic sass, and is basically everything you ever could want from them!
