Youngblood, Fresh Sounds! Album Review: 5 Seconds of Summer “Youngblood”

Nearly a 3 year gap between albums for evolution and development?! Where the hell do I get my new loud guitar pop-punk to rock out to? (I mean I’m only what I’d like to call “Starter pack/essentials only” emo, but I love and need at least a sizable dose of the stuff!) Finding new bands such as Waterparks (PluggityPlugPLUG) can only go so far..!

With the same fun personalities, in addition to new looks (Luke’s longer hair looks more disney prince esque than ever! ), colorful aesthethics and modern pop sounds, the third album Youngblood (released definitely has it’s own revealing vibe.

Cover Art: 9.5/10: Okay 5 seconds of Tumblr mood board, I see you! And why not confuse people by adding two extra bar code areas lol! From the bold font, to Luke’s “natural” pose, to the psychedelic sunset it’s pretty cool!

1) Youngblood:

Um Luke sounds THE SEXIEST here, who gave him the rights!?!?!?!?!?

I’m marrying that rasp, and if you’re reading this, you’re invited!

BLAST THIS SHIT, Calum is also flat out MURDERING that bass!! What A BANGING BOP!!

Dead man walking…. sooo a zombie?! Okay!

This goes HARD, it’s highkey one of my favorites, it’s sexy, it’s boppy, and there’s SOO much replay value!

2) Want You Back:

3)  Lie To Me:

Awww 😦 Cheating is the worst! *inserts standard WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH HER comment*

Those Cake harmonies!! NICEEEEE!

They sang this one live before the album was released, and it seemed like a fan fave. It’s vulnerable and chill and I appriciate it, but it’s kind of laggy to me, and I think there’s better songs they could have chosen to play early for their promotional tour. Out of the live videos of the new songs on tour I played this one least.

4) Valentine:

This one on the other hand, I was very interested in! (even if I couldn’t understand anything but the chorus in the live version #Stanproblems)

Out of all the love songs, this is one of the few I’ve heard that specifically uses the term “Valentine”. I know what I’m playing next February 14th!

I love how gothic it is, that’s not too common!  Better make that chocolate eclair dark chocolate!

Why do we gotta throw the chocolate away though, WHAT A WASTE! What do you have against it 5sos?? I want both THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

5)Talk Fast:

My dad said 5sos sound a lot like One Direction on this album and, yeah I definitly see it. They used 1D cowriters (Carl Falk and Rami Yacoub) on this and the next track specificlly). It’s definitly not a bad thing, they just have a poppier sound, even though it’s been a dang minute (a couple years actually) since 5sos got their start opening up for 1D on tour.

Dance vibes! It might not be a standout song, but it’s fun!

The end also kind of sounds like Daft Punk.

6) Moving Along:

That intro! Wow I feel attacked!

“Is it weird that I’m naked on my sofa”

“Have you been eating breakfast alone like me” That’s so specific! Hey Ashton, Luke, Calum, and Michael, I’m down to go get some coffee and bagels…. okay fine, coffee and donuts!

That squeaky noise is really odd but it works!

Once again, the vocals on this are realllyyyyy hot! Take me AWAY BOYS!!!

Ashton are you good bro?? Sounds kind of like you’re tripping over your drumset!

7) If Walls Could Talk:

I like the wall whisper-babble sound, it’s interesting!

The notion of walls talking may seem childish…but when you think about it, is it really? The concept’s really up to imagination and interpretation.

Damn that falsetto though!! I HEAR ASHTON!!!! Hey boys, during the hiatus, did you freaking forget that the whole fanbase has been begging for more Ashton solos because HE’S SUPER UNDERAPPRICIATED, AND HE CAN ALSO SING REALLY WELL, AND, SO WHAT, HE CAN STILL SING BEHIND THE FLIPPING DRUMSET!!

“All these bodies are hoping to get addicted to sound” Interesting phrasing. Is this a Ed Sheeran like phrasing wayto mean dancing?

If we’re gonna talk about songs with simelar titles, I think Halsey’s Walls Could Talk is just a little cooler in my opinion. (Though, are we gonna just forget about the OG?! Miley Cyrus Fly On The Wall anyone!?)

8) Better Man:

SO CHILL!! I kind of get tropical vibes a bit!

It’s so cute! I like the notion of a S.O helping you be a better person (Though you shouldn’t have to rely on anyone else! Love yourself too Luke + bandmates!). The guitar is also really soothing!

9) More:

MOST ROCK N ROLL TRACK ON THE ALBUM!!! GO ALL THE WAY OFF!!!

“Our house is full of everything we wanted, but it’s an empty home” Yeah, physical items can’t always provide emotional fufillment. People can be rich and famous and own mansions full of fancy items and still feel sad and depressed. I took a class about the Beatles for college last semester, and I read a book for it that mentioned this interview with John Lennon and the reporter is going through his house and he has all these items, but he kind of just sits and reads and watches TV and does drugs. This line reminded me of that.

“Lately we’ve been living in different nations, and I mean, lines are drawn.” I really like this metaphor for a breaking relationship, two nations at war and all.

Nice ending Ash!! 😀

10) Why Won’t You Love Me:

Whyy ay ay ay ay ay ay… is it so whiney?? 😦 The shit’s tolerable, but it lowkey still drives me kind of nuts!

I like how Mikey and Calum both split the second verse! The fact that all 3 string players in the band have parts of verses is probably the highlight of this one.

And then there’s the harmony bit!

Idk if the desparation really works tho…

11) Woke Up In Japan:

I’m actually kind of noticing a bit of a relationship/personal life (financial stuggles) storyline going from If Walls Could Talk to, probably Ghost Of You. Though it does mean the couple breaks up after Better Man, that’s not okay!!

Anyway, in Why Won’t You Love Me, the guy gets on the airplane feeling sad, lonely, and desperate, and I’m guessing now that flight was to Japan. And he’s trying to trick himself into pretending the split never happened. Anyway you’re in Japan! Go find some cute anime animals or something to make yourself feel better, I’ve seen pictures of some awesome shit there!

PLUS THERE’S ALSO POKEMON!!

Hang on, intermission from serious comments…… GO 100% THE FUCK OFF, LUKE AND ASHTON!!!!

12) Empty Wallets:

Not that I’ve heard to much of the discography, but I get some Panic! vibes here.

“Get too high when I’m high”… No, shit Sherlock!  I do kind of like the next line though!

Love the piano!

5sos while writing this song probably: Dancing and spending are simelar enough verbs right?

How exactly does one dance on a wallet? Wouldn’t you ruin it? At least, give it some wear and tear if it’s a leather one. Were they tired??

And then they sing about sugar. (Hey, I can understand spending money on sugar, but it’s a relationship metaphor…) Seems a bit random….

YES Michael sounds amazing on that bridge!!

And then they do THAT FAIRLY-SCARY DOPE GUN-LOADING SOUND THAT TWENTY-ONE PILOTS DOES IN HEATHENS!! Oh my god, I want more of that!!

Moral: Don’t date a needy, greedy bitch. Good to know.

I kind of liked this song better before reviewing it. Lyric dissection can mess you up kids, but please do it anyway, because the knowledge is important and it’s better if your favorite music is meaningful. There’s this guy online who has a youtube channel and a podcast, and he calls himself the Pop Song Professor, and he takes top 40 hits and looks at their meaning (or lack thereof) in the way you would look into the meaning of a book in English class. Look him up, he’s interesting to listen to!

13) Ghost Of You:

Sad! Another song about missing someone and alway wishing they were there. I like the term ghost of you because it’s visual.

It sounds beautiful. Kind of reminds me of Too Much To Ask by Niall Horan in message and way it sounds.

“Found that old Zepplin shirt” I love how 5sos sing about band shirt, just those kind of details are great!

I love the piano, kind of want to learn that!

14) Monster Among Men:

I love how Michael is doing the intro! We really don’t get enough of him on this album either, like on Sounds Good Feels Good he at least had strong parts in Jet Black Heart and Airplanes! I love his voice too, it’s like Luke’s but more raw.

I did not expect that clap-along, jungle vibes chorus! Ok! Intresting!

Why hasn’t anyone isolated the clip of them saying oh no yet and turned it into a meme??

I don’t wanna hear you call yourself an asshole Luke! The worst you’ve done is one night stands right, RIGHTTTT???

Maybe I’m being fooled by fan-goggles and sucessful branding, but in my heart I don’t see these guys as even a tiny bit monsterous. I mean there was that problematic 2015 Rolling Stone interview, but, 1) Bands have always had groupies, I don’t really have a problem with that notion as long as the behavior is consentual. 2) I don’t think the group’s comments were intentionally sexist. 3) I think the writer may have framed them as worse then they actually were. Twisted some words, made them seem edgier. I was pretty suspicious about it when it came out.

If you’re gonna make your bridge be instrumental, better make it this damn good righttt???

15) Meet You There:

We love intense instrumentals and…… assorted odd monkey noises.

And making tounge and throat noises like they’re in the club of the magic conch shell with Spongebob and Patrick!

Call them,5 seconds of (Jungle) Safari!

Oh my god, THAT DROP IS SO HECTIC, AND I’M PRETTY MUCH LIVING FOR IT!!

They’re calling the tour for this album the Meet You There Tour and it’s just like….. I fucking WISH!! I tried to win a radio contest where they did an acoustic set and m&g for they’re tiny ass arena tour before this album… but I couldn’t get in. I wanna meet them here, there, or wherever. I’m writing this! I wish I could meet 5sos because they’re special to me. I said it out loud too! I believe you should always put your wishes and deep desires out into the universe, and then there’s a better chance of figuring out ways you can achieve them.

This would probably be a pretty SAVAGE song for the gym!! You know I’m right!

I like the bit of gentle guitar sprinkled in, that’s funny!

Luke’s raspy scream of YOOOOOOOOOO(U) (“That’s what I like about YOOOOOOOO”) is back and it’s a damn VIBE!

It’s so hard to stay still during that breakdown though, like YAASSS!!!

There’s weird sonic wave, plane crash, static sounds at the end, it’s kind of weird!

16) Babylon:

I like how it’s all hectic, until the acoustic guitar comes in. The beginning is kind of like an action movie scene.

This is quite possibly the coolest Calum Hood lead song in existance! On twitter I saw a comment saying he made this song his bitch, and I can’t get the comment out of my head.

For someone who’s a pretty huge member of the 5sosfam, I’ve always been fairly critical of Calum’s vocals in particular. He gets too nasal sometimes, and that’s put me off before (and autotune doesn’t help). I kind of had to get adjusted to 5sos music at first anyway, when they opened for 1D and I checked them out, I couldn’t see much appeal since the vocals were iffy and the music didn’t stick out. I downloaded the Somewhere New ep, (Beside You and Gotta Get Out being standouts) and gave it a few listens, but it took me until She Looks So Perfect to really be on board.

Anyway, Calum’s got a bit of a lane to make cool stuff in. He’s an amazing writer, I liked him in the begining more once I learned that he wrote Gotta Get Out by himself.

I VIBE with tower visuals and fire references! This has both and it’s awesome!

And the way he says Babylon is also super cool!

Why hasn’t Calum ever spit verses like this before? He’s got a solid rap flow if he wanted to try it even further, I believe it’d work out for him!

This one’s honestly just epic sounding!

Album Rating: 8.2/ 10: Feels good, sounds……cohisive??? As in, most cohesive yet. I’m really liking the modern production for the most part, they are going even more poppy then previously, but as far as pop goes, I think it’s an amazing thing if there’s a bit of an edge or darkness to it. I will say the lyrics have been a bit more playful and emotionally captivating in the past, some of the record seemed a little too watered down, in the persuit of persistantly catchy pop, and I feel like I do prefer the edgier tracks.  Another issue they should also work on in the future is the lack of solo distribution. I feel like everyone except Luke got less parts than in any other body of work by 5 seconds of Summer, and it’s not okay! I feel very much like Michael and Ashton are getting charged a bit short, which is unfair to both them and the fans! I feel like Youngblood does have some great personal stories and truths for the band though, from cheating, to dealing with issues like loneliness, the pressure of fame and financial struggle. Including some loud, fun, interesting, summer bops doesn’t hurt either, I’m quite fond of those! I’m proud they got #1 on the Billboard charts for this, hell yeah! They beat Beyonce, and that’s really impressive!

After a three year album drought (which was, indeed, the very worst!) Taylor Swift has returned!

But, the old Taylor is dead, and has been hardened into an edgier, risk-taking version, one that raps, uses modern production techniques, and includes multiple references to alcohol in her lyrics.

5) Delicate: To me, echo machines (In the audio from her reputation secret sessions, Taylor says she used this machine called a Vocoder.) don’t seem too much different than autotune! My acceptance policy with that is low!

…It works.. I just had to have a internal battle with myself on whether the sound was cool or not…

7) So It Goes… Ooh, …semi sexy?! But most of those vibes are killed robotically!

We’ll just ignore the fact that I cried out the first time I heard it because I WAS PISSED OFF, DUE TO TAYLOR BEING TOO GOOD TO USE THIS AMOUNT OF AUTOTUNE!!

I like the edgy, corner of the allyway, beat on the chorus, that + Taylor lyrics (this is pretty low on that front though, she’s got songs with way better) + infectiousness (I’m not mad with it stuck in my head) are probably what saved this song for me.

As in… I’ve heard this album on repeat, and still barely skip it?

The counting thing part is kind of dope!

“Scratches down your back now” OH WOW! NOT EXPECTING THAT!

8) Gorgeous

Fun Fact: The baby voice in the beginning is Taylor’s friends Blake and Ryan’s (straight couple) daughter, and she is credited in the album booklet and magazines.

SO sarcastic and fun and relatable?! Oh my god?! It has a spot in my heart just for comedy and relatability!

It’s HIS fault your falling for him, I mean of course it is right?! Blame his mere existence in the world! Lol!

I used to love TV shows with characters in a playfully teasing “love/hate” relationships back when I was in middle school. I understand these ideas Taylor!

THE *Ding* is the new *Pen click noise* for sure! It’s so good!!  It sounds like the exact noise the winky face 😉 would make if expressions made sounds. (Someone should play with this idea and show the world!)  Can PLEASE this be a trend!? Little sounds like this in music that are real life sounds that are fitting!

“I’m so furious, at you for making me feel this way, but what can I say? You’re Gorgeous!” Like, when you’re crushing on someone and it’s SOOOO unrealistic and unlikely to happen that you get frustrated.

Can I bring up my first reaction again? I went from pissed at autotune to BOPPING in like.. 0.2 seconds!

“Shades of grey and candlelight” Is this a subtle reference to a certain trashy movie that Taylor happened to do a beautiful duet for with Zayn Malik?!!?

Why does she sing the word “first” like that? LMAO!

This one’s supposedly about her dating Tom Hiddleston to get away from her relationship with Calvin Harris OOOHH!  But, psh, there are more important things to focus on!

Plot twist: She betrays him, OH GOD, THIS IS THE STUFF, THIS IS THRILLING!

Song production 10/10 again! IT FITS SO WELL! Listen to that dull siren beat!

Flawless-Piano-Ballad Taylor is back! This is the least amount of those we’ve EVER had on an album and I’d really like to take this as a sign of her being happy!

She sings about the not as glamorous and romanticized side of New Years, the aftermath of the party, and contains within it some of her best lyrics EVER!!

Particularly:

“Hold on to the memories, they will hold on to you” Whether good or bad or in between, your memory stays with you through time so you have to try to make it the best you can. That’s the meaning I get out of this line. So powerful!

Taylor Swift is one of my favorite artists EVER, my second-in-command QUEEN to only Demi and I feel like I don’t talk about her quite enough!! She’s a genius, her lyrical storytelling in her music is EVERYTHING!

Oh and to put it into the universe: GOD, WOULD I LOVE TO MEET HER!!! I’ve been wishing for that since Middle School!

I love that many of my favorite artists this year went for the route of making the sounds of their music more sonically cohesive (SATISFYING AF! Eardrums = happy!) and reputation is no exception!

Despite playing around with certain vocal effects (knocked most of the points from this) she shouldn’t have in places, this album is straight up snake venom

FIRE!

Wait, maybe I don’t want to call it that!!

 

Anyway, Rep is an addictive, sassy, fun, clever, edgy, magical, BLAST of an album!!

I expected more of her writing from a character/the media portrayal of her’s perspective a la Blank Space and Look What You Made Me Do, but I guess she does do that on some of the revenge songs and Don’t Blame Me a bit, I just think she might have been able to play with it more.

Taylor’s rapping is EPIC, and I can’t believe we’re just now being blessed with it!

I’m all for edgy Taylor, bring it on. It’s her Miley Cyrus Can’t Be Tamed era, but luckily Taylor’s too soft and reliable to go all Bangerz,  I’d hate that!

Hi, My name is Dana, and Niall is not only my favorite member of One Direction (Hey! WHERE THE OTHER NIALL GIRLS ATTT?! *Internet high five!*), but he’s PRETTY MUCH A LIVING EXTREMELY-PRECIOUS LOVABLE, IRISH PRINCE!!! ❤ (So yeah! Kind of EVERYTHING?!)

A sweet, nostalgic, and soothing gem! I hear it’s actually not based on a real story though, and I still don’t quite understand that? WOW, what a realistic story teller! Get yourself a fave like that!

3) Seeing Blind ft Marin Morris:  Young Niall’s playing around in the country music zone! Cute! Fun!

“Paper dreams”, So, like… books? Literature? 😀 THAT’S SO CLEVER!

I only know Marin’s song My Church, but wow their voices sound beautiful together! I love the harmonies!

“Seeing Blind”, this confuses me a little, blinded by love? By the other person’s beauty? I guess it works!

4) Slow Hands: How have I not talked about this on the blog yet?!

IT’S SO SEXY AND ROCKER!! It’s like a whole other side of Niall that was only unleashed in this song, and MAN, PLEAASE GIVE US MORE!

His voice does sound different here, and there are clearly effects going on…. but… just,…. like ….. IT’S SEXY SOUNDING!!

Okay drumbeat echoing my heartbeat! OKAY!

“Sweat dripping down that dirty laundry” Honestly, not the world’s most appealing sexy visual. I’m heard him say he means it like a girl sweating in the club while she’s dancing which makes it better, but it’s just like it’s the song’s chorus (=repetition)! CRAP!

First Demi Lovato (my freaking queen!) mentions slow hands in her song and now Nialler!? WAY. TO. MAKE. SOMETHING. SEXY. JUST. SAYING!!! That’s how it’s done!

I’m seeing him do this live on November 13th (two days after my bday! = NIALL PARTY!), LORD HELP ME!

I like how “Don’t it feel fucked up we’re not in love” is literally the only swear word on this album, making it the single reason that gives Flicker the explicit rating. And that he only says it cause he’s hurt!

6) Paper Houses:

Ha, I like the little countdown!

“This house of broken hearts” SERIOUSLY #WhoHurtNiall ????? THIS ISN’T OKAY! Yes, you would think he’s been through breakups in the 7 years since 1D was formed, but we haven’t really heard just Niall singing about it in music until now!

His voice sounds very strong in this song! That chorus seems to soar up to the sky, up above all trees, above the roofs of buildings, even those in a city! It’s SO GOOD!!

“Why did we climb, and fall so far?” BABY! 😦

“Paper houses” I’m only just getting that it means a stack of cards, even though the verses quite literally say it! “Paper houses” “Paper dreams” Why is everything paper?!

But…IT’S SO POETIC!! The literary nerd side of me is LIVING!! Niall did co-write on all of this album so THANK YOU!

Oh my god, I do actually want to reach out to him like he’s my friend, this is so comforting!

I know he had to have written this for us, he’s such a sweetheart! ❤ Call it just a girl (or several!) in love with a band member, but that love can be genuine! Don’t be quick to judge away at it!

I just want to be his friend, (or his lover) and it’s enforced on this! This is going to be a beautiful song for an intimate concert such as the Flicker Sessions!

8) Flicker

Niall has said that this is his favorite song on the album and that it’s the most personal to him. BUT, ONCE AGAIN, IT’S FREAKING SAD!! GAAAHHH! 😦

I think there might be a difference between a dull album, and one with which you can blissfully zone out (or work, if you’re feeling productive, I guess!) with it on in the background.

Anyway, when you get the energy necessary to pay attention to the lyrics it’s sweet and comforting again!

I love that, but not gonna lie, I kind of got sad the first time I heard this song.

Niall has always seemed to date the least out of the One Direction boys, which is fine, because he’s known to be fond being single, but it just makes me wonder.

This really does build up, like rolling waves, it’s great! The drums are a very nice touch!

I like the notion of the tide being problems in a relationship, or, it could just become life problems in general!

Album Rating: Alrighty, I know he’s pretty much my sunshine, but, honest music critic time

7.8/10: (AND IT KIND OF FEELS LIKE RIPPING OFF A BANDAID!) Flicker is really adorable, and chill and will get you making the sad puppy face,

and there are some lyrics that really have their own glow

However, listening to it all the way through, actually can get on the bit of the boring side. I found myself struggling to pay attention to the lyrics sometimes, but at least I was in a calm, blissful zone filled with Niall’s voice!

I just think some tracks may be better on their own (…On my own… OH MY GOD, I DIDN’T DO THAT ON PURPOSE! Haha!)

Anyway, it’s quite a beautiful and comforting album, and I love how his tour is going to be so intimate! Niall being the sweetest Irish prince in all the land = CONFIRMED! The album may just be a flicker,  but the guy has whole flames inside him of passion for his guitar and his fans! ❤

In middle school, I was fascinated by love/hate relationships, largely due to how I saw them being portrayed on TV. (Specifically, Niles and C.C. on The Nanny, Sam and Freddie on Icarly, and Sonny and Chad on Sonny With A Chance) I don’t believe that a few can’t work out, I just think they’re worse than I originally thought, and it doesn’t sound too good in this song!

Song/Single Rating: 7.9/10 Steady cool beat/melody! I’m not fond of both the message and the autotune. Louis sounds great, Bebe sounds fine! It’s chill, catchy, boppy, and poppy! When Louis announced this song, I was worried I wouldn’t like it, because while I was loving the Louis + Bebe part, I wasn’t too keen on Digital Farm animals since they made that crappy mess Digital Love with Hailee Steinfeld! (And I LOVE Hailee Steinfeld!) The production and beat on this were nice though, well done! This song should be radio friendly enough as well, not to the level Just Hold On was (MISSED OPPORTUNITY!!) but still great! It’s problematic, but “I’ll just keep on coming back to (the replay button”.

Music Video Rating: 8.1/10 I just love how personal it is to Louis! Like YES, you show us your favorite coffee shop and football stadium!! I suppose we could have gone for a lovely park instead of that allyway, but you do you King Louis! He looked so handsome and happy! And he and Bebe looked like they had some kind of chemistry! SIGN OF HARRY STYLES SOLO SUCCESS!!!! Album Review: Harry Styles *self-titled*

So, unless you’ve been living under a rock,

you know that the most adored member of the group that was (and hopefully will eventually be again) One Direction, has released his debut solo album. That’s right, I’m talking HARRY FREAKING STYLES HERE! *Cue angels singing* This happened May on 12, but DON’T BLAME A GIRL FOR WANTING TO GIVE HAZZA THE APPRECIATION NOW! Imagine, like, all acoustic self-written rock god vibes + epic stadium-ready vocals + our sweet, charming cupcake boy Harry Edward Styles. THIS IS WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!! Personally, I’ll add in the fact that I went to London right as this album dropped (Not Cheshire though, darn it! I want to see THE bakery!), so it was, like, the most perfect train soundtrack, EVER!

Album Art: 7/10 It’s literally just his back! In a bathtub! We don’t get to see any more of Harry in the bathtub???  Wow, What a ripoff! 😉 Well.. I’d say it’s probably never been done before right? You have a very nice back there, H, I’d just really rather see your face. It’s artistic yes, but it’s just alright art, nothing exceptional. That photo of him in the blue suit surrounded by water though = GOR-GEOUS! Why didn’t I know about the guitar tattoo on his shoulder, (I knew all of the other ones!) I kind of LOVE IT! At least we have the tattoo and a (still plain..) necklace to look at. I swear if any other artist did this they couldn’t pull it off as well as Harry and they might get a lower grade! Darn his ability to pull things off. Still, for an artist known for his bold outfit choices, you’d think he’d be showcasing one on the cover of his debut album!

Meet Me In The Hallway: We start off with a slow, classic rock, Beatles-esque (An obvious inspiration for much of the album), ballad. The guitar strumming is soothing, while the little electronic bell pulses (I’m calling it that) give the opposite vibe of being on the edge. What do you gotta to get better at Harry? You seem like you’d make a great boyfriend! I’m kind of getting a mysterious nighttime vibe off of this one. The sound is just cool! I think this track and the last track From The Dining Table might be connected. (don’t know about any of the middle, this album runs together smoothly, but I don’t believe it to follow a concept.) This would come first and be leaving the girl, and then From The Dining Table would be a follow-up. And, they both contain references to rooms in a house or hotel. Just a thought.

Sign of the Times: I reviewed this on here before, comparing it to chunky peanut butter due to the roughness of Harry’s vocal, and the smoothness of the (BEAUTIFUL) piano part! (9/10 would probably learn if I still took piano lessons!) I didn’t review the music video, but it was RIDICULOUS! Look it up for a laugh, it’s Harry just flying around. Now, if you hear the song it makes a bit more sense, and his falsetto part definitely makes you want to lift off into the air because it is so perfect, but it still hardly makes sense! I’ve wondered what the heck this song is about, and Harry tried to clarify this in his article with Rolling Stone magazine where he says it is about a mother giving childbirth and the mother isn’t going to make it due to a complication, so she tells the child to go forth in the world. This explanation has holes to me, Best clothes? A baby? WHAT ABOUT THE BULLET PART, THAT MADE ME THINK THE SONG WAS RELATED WITH THE MILITARY!? Yeah, I just don’t know! Here’s some trivia you may have learned in Harry’s album creation documentary: “Stuck and” running from the bullets was not the original lyric if you know what I’m saying. Guess they just decided to go the clean route, though the other version was more intense!

Carolina: Okay, we’re getting into more fun songs here! Here’s a lil jam with a story! I love the lalalalalala build up, it’s goofy yet it adds to the song. If you wanted to find out who this might be about, I suppose you could do a bit of digging, who has Harry dated with a family from Carolina? I like speculating the potential subjects of songs, but I also respect the artist’s privacy. So I won’t dig into this much. It’s all about the balance, kids! The beat here particularly isn’t horrible, and then combine it with that buildup and YES!
Two Ghosts: Well, I did just say I like speculating the potential subjects of songs sometimes and I do believe in the Louis and Harry “conspiracy theory” with much evidence backing its probability of being cannon if not still now, than at a point in the past. That being said, look at the lyrics of the song and the history of the bandmates. Fits with the theory, all I’m saying. People have speculated the “Same lips red, same eyes blue, same white shirt couple more tattoos” to mean Styles ex gf Taylor Swift (why are people so keen to make EVERYTHING about that particular relationship?), but the tattoo line disproves this, Taylor has none. (Louis on the other hand..) What? You came to see me review the actual music? Pshh.. fine. It’s sad, it’s beautiful, I like the ideas of it, and I feel like swaying along with a lighter. (Wish I could at his concert! OH WAIT I CAN’T BECAUSE TICKETMASTER’S VERIFIED FAN SYSTEM IS MESSED UP!! #BITTER)

Sweet Creature: OH MY GOSHHHHH!!! *Melts into big puddle* Look, A WILD, INSANELY ADORABLE HARRY STYLES LULLABY APPEARED!! Okay, I’ll stop talking in caps, it’s ruining the gentle nature of the song. Whoever Harry wrote this about is the luckiest person ever because AWW! *Refuses to think about how “Two Hearts in one Home”/“Wherever I go, you bring me home relates to the Louis and Harry theory, except, oops, I just put that thought into your brain now!* Harry referring to a love interest as a creature is a bit odd I think, but it’s a sweet creature like a bunny rabbit or a kitten, (and it’s Harry Styles) so it’s ok! Probably one of the cutest, purest, sweetest, relationship songs I have EVER heard!
Only Angel: I’d believe you to be lying if you said that the first 45 seconds or so DIDN’T trick you into thinking the style of this song would be different than from what it REALLY turned out to be! It’s got piano and choral voices, but at the same time, reminds me of a rocket ship preparing to go up into space. Remove the two final letters off that rocket, and you get the actual song, pure ROCK! OH GOD, HARRY CAN PULL OFF ROCK! (and even more so on the next song!) This is a JAM! I like the idea of a lover being that perfect split between angel and devil!The ooh-whoo-ooh is another fun little sing-along part!

Kiwi: Only Harry himself probably knows if this song title actually DOES have any connection to the song itself! (Maybe the girl is of that nationality) THIS SONG IS PURE, ENERGETIC, ROCK FUN! Does it actually make much sense? (Particularly loving that second verse!) THAT’S DEBATABLE, BUT JUST LISTEN TO HARRY SHOUTING IT, CRANK UP YOUR SPEAKERS AND HAVE A BLAST! “I’M HAVING YOUR BABY, IT’S NONE OF YOUR BUSNESSSSSSSS” *LOUD GUITAR*

Ever Since New York: *Cue calm acoustic tune break* Probably the most soothing, in-the-zone, track on the album. It’s simple, it loops around, yet it retains replay value. (I mean this seriously! Not just as a fan! Serious business!) I fell right in love with this one, the moment I saw him perform it on SNL. I had no idea Harry had so much talent with a guitar, the one with the guitar in the band was always Niall.

Woman: CAUTION: EXTREMLY CATCHY! Try not to sing the playful Lalalalalalalala or get the chorus and matching guitar rhythm (COOL!) in your head! Again it contains a voice in the beginning, it’s interesting when artists do that. Shout out to Harry’s affinity towards Rom-Com movies! Except this particular relationship doesn’t seem to work out as well as one in a Rom Com! Harry said he’s been told the noise in it sounds like a duck or goose and I simply cannot unhear that!

From the Dining Table: WARNING: Don’t play this song loudly, particularly if you are listening to the album on earbuds because it does have that weird ASMR affect when listened to like that! Personally, I hate that effect, it feels uncomfortable and weird. So, yes it sounds like Harry recorded this song extremely close to the microphone, and it gives probably the intended feel of feeling more connected with it. This song’s really sad and lonely, and it contains a line about playing with himself HARRY OMFG! I hope famous people don’t have to live this way too often, it captures the lonely-in-a hotel room vibe, even if this particular case also involves a breakup. The bridge actually reminds me of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, except it isn’t at all happy, the hope ends in sadness!

Album Rating: 9.7/10 Raise your hand if you’ve been waiting for this ever since Harry’s X Factor audition! *Raises hand up to sky like that joke on Tumblr* *Raise your hand if you have been personally victimized by Acoustic and Rocker Harry*

Anyway, WHAT AN ALBUM! I love that Harry wrote much of it, I’m impressed with his guitar skills, I love how it goes from sad, to sway-worthy, to the most adorable thing in the universe (other than Harry himself) to HECK YEAH, LET’S BUST SOME WINDOWS! What’s my one complaint? 10 TRACKS ONLY, WTF?! There’s this concept of a deluxe album, Harry, why’d you make us think you’ve never heard of such a thing? Honestly, don’t Directioners deserve just a little speck more?! It’s insulting! I still couldn’t be happier with what we have, I always knew he had the potential to produce THIS!

HARRY STYLES HACKER POSTS SOMETHING UNUSUAL?!?! + HARRY’S SOLO ALBUM ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

It’s always unfortunate when internet trolls manage to get into the accounts of our favorite celebrities, but stuff happens, right?!

Harry Styles was the latest apparent victim of this, on Tuesday, April 11th, 2017.

However, what was posted, wasn’t the usual account promotion baloney, or following random people.

Someone posted a dead link, (aka it lead to nowhereland, until a Larry fan unfortunately redirected it to something that went a little too far! ) and more importantly, quoted an adorable comparison of pictures of Louis Tomlinson drinking coffee.

WHAT CAN THIS MEAN? IS THIS PURE TROLLING, OR POTENTIALLY SOMETHING MORE! Hackers aren’t known to post this type of thing!

I’m going to admit that I’m a person in the 1D fandom that believes in Larry, aka the romantic paring of Louis and Harry. (I don’t force it upon them though! Whether real, or not, I’m respectful, although, C,MON, THEY HAVE MATCHING TATTOOS!)

I’m just saying, this is suspicious behavior, and I do believe if it was just a fan that believed in Larry, who hacked him, (I’d love to think our fandom is more respectful than that) they would probably

a) Promote Harry’s new song Sign Of The Times

b) Promote Louis’s song Just Hold On

c) Retweet the famous Louis Tomlinson tweet, saying that Harry is “Always in my (his) heart”

d) Any/All of the above!

SIGN OF SOLO HARRY!!!! Single Review: Sign of The Times -Harry Styles

April 7, 2017. Might as well be considered INTERNATIONAL SOLO HARRY DAY!!!!

The most highly anticipated solo debut of 2017, out of any of the four One Direction boys, and out of basically anyone in the world selling music, has been for Harry Styles, most likely due to his gift of out-charming the heck out of anyone who decided to pay attention for more than 60 seconds.

It’s finally here, and he’s no longer just a sweet British 16 year old boy who works in the bakery…

(Sorry for the feels trip!)

He’s a full power ROCK STAR!!!

And he proves it with his debut solo song Sign of The Times, a 5 minute and 40 second long power rock ballad.

Lets get this out of my system first: OH MY GOD IT’S HARRY, AND HE’S FINALLY BACK BECAUSE HE BASICALLY DISAPEARED ALL THE WAY TO PLUTO BETWEEN THE SECOND ONE DIRECTION’S HIATUS HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED, AND NOW, THIS PRESENT MOMENT ON EARTH! IT’S SO BEAUTIFUL THOUGH!!

No, Harry I won’t stop the crying because your voice is too beautiful, edgy, and soulful!!

I’m kind of getting vibes like One Direction’s song Infinity, because it’s soothing like that, but it’s edgier and is all around  produced better.

And he’s definitely had old school rock influences such as Mick Jagger and David Bowie. If the rebirth of that kind sound starts with Harry, it definitely won’t harm music production! I think it’s really interesting that that’s what he’s starting to go for!

So the roughness of Harry’s voice sort of balances out the smoothness of the piano rhythm. So it’s like adding peanuts to peanut butter and it becomes chunky. You heard it here on DOPC, Harry’s song Sign of The Times is musical peanut butter!

AND THEN WE GET TO THE FALSETTO PART, WHICH, LITERALLY, HE WENT TO ZAYN’S STUDIO AND STOLE, I SWEAR, BECAUSE, LOOK DIRECTLY AT ME AND TELL ME IT COULDN’T HAVE BEEN SAMPLED OFF OF Mind Of Mine!

Fine Harry, We can get away together, no need to yell! (This part is seriously magical though! Lift me into the sky with it blasting in the background!!)

Fave Lyric: “Just stop your crying have the time of your life, looking from the atmosphere, things are pretty good from here”

Harry’s song is no exception to being as good as I expected from my predictions (the rock influence), to its surprises! (Where’d the falsetto come from?!?! I LOOVE that kind of surprise!)

It’s an all around comforting, yet powerful rock tune, that is less-radio-friendly than Niall’s and Louis’s solo efforts, but why should that really come to play when it’s Harry freaking Styles?!

Oh and, ……. It’s kind of already beat a record held by chart-titan/all-around queen Adele! That’s kind of EPIC?! It was the fastest song to reach #1 in the US on Itunes!!!!

Can’t wait to see what else Harry has in store for us with music! I’m still really curious, and he has a SNL performance coming up with another expected new release so IT’S SO LIT!
