Pop Princess Katy Perry has returned to bless our ears with more music as sweet to the eardrum as cotton candy. Her newest release Chained To The Rythm is an extremely catchy pop tune perfect for a casual fun blast in the car right?!

It almost sounds a bit too generic, like, after giving it a first listen, you’ve already heard it a lot before…

The thing is, you probably haven’t. Listen again and think about the lyrics.

Turns out, the song’s not what it seems to be like on the service level.

Which is kind of what the whole thing’s about, isn’t it?

Chained To The Rhythm actually  has strong social and political messages, particularly that humans are happily numb to any dangers we might be facing.

And Katy definitely means to imply it against our current president. (But I’m not really going into that..This is an entertainment blog over here!)

In case you missed the message in the lyrics, Katy added visuals, in the lyric video (Hamsters! Side note, the promotional cartoon hamster for this song is precious!! ), during both her performances at both the Grammies and the Brits, and now this interesting video!

(Watch along while reading the comments, if you can!)

Oblivia is the name of the amusement park. In case you didn’t know, to be oblivious to something means to ignore it completely/miss it. It’s clever!

Katy’s Pink Hair that makes her look like Wanda from Fairly Oddparents is back! (Did anyone really miss it? Well, it’s here!)

The outfit flat out looks like a space suit!

That fence isn’t just white! It’s also blue and pink, I’ll have you know!

LOOK AT THAT HAMSTER FOUNTAIN NAWWWWW!!!!

Here’s a fitting reference, Don’t those people in the Oblivia amusement park, including Katy herself, look like they could residents of the Capitol in The Hunger Games?! Food for thought..

Do you see her reference to the American Dream and an ideal society yet?! Because now it’s right in front of your face!

She hurt herself on the rose haha, things are not as they seem.

I’m terrified of roller coasters, but video footage of them is AWESOME!

The chorus to this song is hypnotisingly catchy even a to a degree higher then most Katy Perry music (which is saying A LOT!) . It just seems to get catchier with each listen!

Chained To The Rhythm is really Katy’s most well-planned song yet! It’s surprising exactly how clever it really is.

OH HEY, EMOJIS! (Can that be an actual thing? A tunnel of emojis?)

The roller coaster is a heart, and I know this is part of a video supposed to symbolize happy distraction and I’m playing into it, but it looks REALLY COOL RIGHT?!

And… EXTREMLY dangerous considering it was just launched in the air like that… DAMMIT KATY!

I see the 1984 book reference on the sign by the line. Nice!

That ranking system is a definite dig at sexism.

People as flying “bombs”. Missed that the first watch. It’s getting too scary now!

There’s the hamster wheel!

Fiery water…. that is not possible, but of course it’s cool visuals! FIRE BREATHINGGGG!!!  (but I’m now getting the probable global warming dig. GOSH THIS IS SO POLITICAL!)

WHY IS KATY’S HAIR SUDDENLY BLONDE?! Can’t work out the reasoning here, maybe she changed wigs. Maybe it is the Capitol. Would she be the Effie Trinket?

Is the TV thing another 1984 reference? Is Skip Marley (Bob Marley’s grandson, by the way!) Big Brother?!

Plot twist! Reality is 3D and 3D glasses are 2D!

Katy literally just became woke! (informed, but c,mon you’re on the internet, you know the slang!)

I’ve decided Katy would be like Effie, because in the series, Effie used to be as blind to the horror of the Hunger Games as the rest of the people from the Capitol, but she learns her lesson as she sees what Katniss and Peeta really had to go through, and that it is serious. Compare that with this video!

Her “Oh Shit!” face at the end though!

Rating:  8/10 Fascinating and concerning video with a strong message! Are we really that ignorant about current world issues? You wouldn’t want to think so, but…. Up to interpretation, but we definitely need to be concerned about/protect/fight for the things that should be considered the right things in our crazy world. Music/Entertainment is fun and needed, but we shouldn’t let it completely cover up our concern for important world issues. (I know, this is coming from me, but I said not completely. I’m not as well as informed as I could be but I know more now about current problems than ever!) ANYWAY, THE VID IS BELOW!
